The earliest Egyptian references to the healing properties of the plant are found in the fragments of an almost 4000 year old scroll of medical instructions, known to scholars as the Papyrus Ramesseum III.
Some researchers have even hypothesized that the culture of ancient Egypt was already very familiar with the cannabis plant already by the time this document was written– if not for the plant’s medicinal uses, almost certainly for its industrial uses such as making rope.
